The Careers and Employability team at London Metropolitan University provides comprehensive support to students and graduates, helping them to explore career pathways, develop essential skills, and successfully navigate every stage of the recruitment process.

Students are supported in considering a wide range of future career pathways, including graduate employment, further study, freelancing, and starting a business. The team offers personalised guidance to help clarify your career goals, identify your strengths, and create practical action plans for life after graduation. Support is available for applications, CV writing, interviews, and assessment centres, ensuring you can confidently present your skills and experience to prospective employers. Advice is also provided on preparing for graduate roles, internships, volunteering opportunities, enterprise initiatives, and appropriate work placements as part of your course.

Career mentoring programme

The career mentoring programme connects current students with experienced professionals from a range of sectors who have at least three years of industry experience. The scheme enables students to gain sector insight, build confidence, expand professional networks, and develop a clearer understanding of career progression within their chosen field.

Volunteering

London Met encourages students and staff to volunteer. Volunteering is a great way to develop your skills, enhance your CV and to give something back to the community.

A variety of in-person volunteering opportunities are available across London, supporting vulnerable individuals and local communities. Organisations such as the National Health Service, The Felix Project and Toynbee Hall offer roles including food distribution, essential deliveries and befriending services for those experiencing isolation.

There are also remote opportunities with charities including Parkinson's UK and Multiple Sclerosis Society. Students can also explore additional roles through the University Careers Portal and the Greater London Authority website.

Employability initiatives

London Metropolitan University has a diverse student community, with learners from over 150 countries contributing to a rich and inclusive academic environment. The University offers a range of initiatives designed to enhance employability and support students in achieving their career ambitions, including targeted programmes for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic students aimed at developing skills, confidence and access to professional opportunities.

Through partnerships with organisations such as the 10,000 Interns Foundation, students can access paid internship opportunities via the 10,000 Black Interns and 10,000 Able Interns programmes, which champion underrepresented talent across a variety of UK industries. In addition, AllAboutLaw offers a three-week online Asian and Minority Ethnic Heritage employability course, with materials remaining accessible beyond the live programme to provide flexible careers support.

Sports

Staying active at London Met is easy, with excellent sports and fitness facilities available to students. The campuses offer gyms with state-of-the-art cardiovascular equipment, fitness studios, dance studios, a full-sized basketball court with scoreboard, and dedicated exercise rooms.

Students can take part in a wide range of fitness classes, as well as health and wellbeing activities such as personal training, mindfulness and yoga. Friendly staff are always on hand to help you get started and find activities that suit your lifestyle.
